BREWTON, AL - D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital officially kicks off $11 million emergency room expansion project with groundbreaking event.

"We are happy to be at this point in the project," chairman, Ruth Harrell said. "The Healthcare Authority and hospital have worked many hours to make this vision a reality."

The $11 million investment includes a new 7,500 square foot emergency room, two integrated operating room suites and renovations to the existing surgical suite. In the new emergency room, five exam, two trauma, a cardiac trauma and a decontamination room are planned. The expansion will also centralize registration and new waiting rooms in outpatient, radiology emergency.

"It has been 20 years since the hospital has had this kind of investment," said Chris Griffin, hospital administrator. "It has taken a long time to get to the groundbreaking. In 2016 we will see the fruit of everyone's hard work."

Griffin went on to thank those who played key roles in the community for their support of the project. Those include but are not limited to: Escambia County Healthcare Authority; Brewton Mayor, Yank Lovelace, and City Council; Escambia County Commission; local Brewton physicians; specialist physicians; D.W. McMillan Hospital staff; the Brewton Community; financing partner, Trustmark Bank; architect, Sherlock, Smith and Adams; and contractor, Robbins and Morton.
