BREWTON, AL - D.W. McMillan Emergency Medical Services (EMS) has added a new vehicle to their fleet. A newly purchased 2022 F450 Wheeled Coach 4X4 adds another top of the line ambulance to service Escambia County, Alabama citizens.
The new Ford Type I ambulance is state-of-the-art, with many new features now available. Healthcare officials discussed the comfort of riding in the new ambulance due to new technology as one of the new tools.
"The ambulance is equipped with liquid spring technology, a system that allows you to optimize vehicle ride and handling based on road conditions," stated Justin Cole, EMS Director. "This ambulance has been long-awaited, with the Covid-19 pandemic affecting automakers, this unit had been ordered since July of last year, and finally completed production."
Healthcare officials explained that because a new ambulance has been added to the EMS fleet, they are now able to return to scheduled down time for other units. Since the expansion into the Flomaton area in 2021, all the current vehicles have been additionally used. This will also give the availability of an additional unit that could be placed into service if needed.
"In addition to the comfortable ride, the addition of a new, additional Unit will allow for more preventive maintenance and off line repairs of other front line units," said Jeff Booth, Escambia County Health Care Authority CEO. "As we continue to improve our fleet, our vehicle downtime will hopefully become much lower."
Once the installation of all necessary medical equipment is complete, the new ambulance should be in service during March. EMS personnel ask that when you see any ambulance or emergency vehicle approaching to please remember to pull to the side of the road and let them pass.
